green hedge

Make a resting green place from your home garden, surrounded by hedge and greenery.
If you want a place just for you, far from the curious eyes, and a natural beauty and a green simplicity, build your shady corner in the home garden.

You can choose evergreen plants as cypress or yew, or biennial green plants. Those evergreen hedges are protecting you during winter, but they aren’t beautiful as these which are loosing their leaves. An interesting and special hedge is of hornbeam, also of red beech or maple. They are good-looking in spring, in budding period, and have a nice color in autumn.

Create different and interesting shapes from hedges, giving to your green garden an architectural aspect. Cutout the hedge of red beech as if would be a door there, representing the entrance into a secret garden. Assort this image to the tall and strait and simple hedges of Ligustrum vulgare (Oleaceae).

trumpet vine hedge

There are also the climbing flowering plants, which are splendidly dressing your fences, shaping a flowering hedge. Some of these plants are Trumpet vine (Campsis radicans), Wisteria, Clematis (known also as traveller’s joy) etc. But their leaves usually cover the flowers and you have to reduce the foliage to increase the flowering:

  • Prune by half the lateral sprigs and, next year, the climbing plant will over flower.
  • Cut the main sprigs ends and turn them in for a horizontal not vertical growth.
  • Remove the wrong growth mature branches which are no longer flowering.

After the pruning add some compost, mineral or organic fertilizer to give to the plant the sprouting force. Then water the roots weekly.
As regards of Wisteria climbing plant, after two months from the spring blooming, cut by half the lateral sprigs and dispose the main branch in wanted direction, then wire it from the fence. Thus Wisteria, as well as Clematis, will flower again in autumn.

evergreen relaxing corner

Dress the entire garden with lawn, put a wooden bench and a table too just in the centre of this particular green place and enjoy the image and relax, having breakfast and taking your morning coffee there.
