Strategically located at Dubai International Airport, the Dubai Flower Centre is a new hub of growth for the floriculture industry in the 21st century. With the explosive growth in global trade of flowers and perishables, there is an increasing demand for innovative logistics and commercial solutions to enable the industry to reduce transit times, improve quality and grow profits.
The Dubai Flower Centre has been designed to meet these needs. With construction on this ultramodern facility already underway, the first phase of operations, capable of handling up to 150,000 tons of flowers and perishables, is scheduled to go live in Autumn of 2004.
The Dubai Flower Centre is committed to delivering on this opportunity by providing:
Increased capacity and connections to and from major global trading points
Rapid consolidation and trans-shipment
The world’s best cool chain management
Resources and facilities to enable cost effective value-addition
Facilities and support to enable efficient commercial transactions
The centre, developed and automated have a floor area of about 100,000 sqm providing for export chambers and offices apart from product break down and buildup stations and automated sorting areas. The handling capacity of the centre is anticipated to exceed 300,000 metric tones of product throughput per annum. The entire facility (with the exception of offices) will be maintained at an ambient temperature of just 2-4 degrees Centigrade and accordingly.
DFC has been designed as a transshipment hub, and the main handling operations for import, export and transit take place on the ground floor of the facility. Rapid and efficient handling is aided by a fully automatic system that safeguards quality and maximizes shelf life. At the moment all perishable transit cargo from Emirates is being handled by DFC.
The cold storage facility at Dubai Flower Centre is fully bonded and measures 34,000m2. It operates as a free zone and offers a number of business incentives to prospective clients, including 100% foreign ownership, no personal income tax, quality control facilities, customs inspection and a multi-modal transportation network to countries in the Middle East and further a field.
Dubai Flower Centre has also implemented a range of technology solutions to increase visibility in the supply chain. This includes a bespoke cargo handling and warehouse management system, which handles the management and monitoring of perishable consignments, from the moment an aircraft arrives at the facility. In addition, a cargo tracking system enables customers to track their flight status, shipment loading and the temperature of their products throughout the supply chain.
