Berberis Thunbergii ‘Bagatelle’, also called Japanese Barberry ‘Bagatelle’, is a small, very compact, spiny, spring flowering, deciduous shrub with deep red-purple leaves which turn orange and red in autumn. The pale yellow flowers are followed be glossy red fruits. Good, as we specified before, for a rock garden, but may not survive in areas with cold winters. Helianthemum ‘Henfield Brilliant’, common named Rock Rose, is a small, spreading, evergreen shrub bearing saucer-shaped, brick-red flowers in late spring and summer. The leaves are narrow and grey-green. Helianthemum ‘Henfield Brilliant’ is effective in groups on a sunny bank; it’s also good in a rock garden or raised bed, or at the front of a border.

How to grow Helianthemum ‘Henfield Brilliant’

Helianthemum ‘Henfield Brilliant’ grows in moderately fertile, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil, in sun. You have to trim after flowering to keep bushy. Helianthemum ‘Henfield Brilliant’ is often short-lived, but easily propagated by softwood cuttings in late spring.

Leptospermum Scoparium ‘Kiwi’ (‘Kiwi’ Tee Tree) is a compact shrub with arching shoots bearing an abundance of small, flat, dark crimson flowers during late spring and early summer. The small, aromatic leaves are flashed with purple when young, maturing to mid or dark green. ‘Kiwi’ Tee Tree is suitable for a large rock garden and attractive in an alpine house display. Leptospermum Scoparium ‘Kiwi’ may not survive cold winters.
